Note from the Director...

You know it is the unofficial end of summer when school starts. Depending on who is going back to school, your children or yourself, there are lots of supplies needed (books, pens/pencils, notebooks, computers, etc.) Don't forget your library card! The library is a gateway for so much information: reference materials, computers, Internet, databases, magazines/journals, and so much more. Don't forget to take advantage of the many programs being offered at the library for children, teens and adults. That reminds me...September is Library Sign-up month. Ask your neighbors and friends if they have a library card. If they don't, and they reside in Jackson Township, send them our way!

As a library member of the Evergreen Indiana consortium, HNPL patrons have access to materials from over fifty libraries. Evergreen Indiana libraries are serving nearly 650,000 library patrons!

Children's Department News

The Children's Department is starting two new clubs this month. An after-school Craft Club and an after- school Lego club. We will meet once a month and get creative!

Our craft club will meet on September 14th at 4:30 PM and we'll be making tote bags out of old jeans or an old t-shirt.  If you are interested, bring a pair of jeans or an old t-shirt and get creative!  The Lego Club will meet on September 28th at 4:30 PM.  We'll see what we can make in an hour!  We are also accepting Lego donations.  These clubs are for school-age children.

Our storytime schedule begins again on September 8th and will continue through the end of the month.  Hope to see you there!

Atlanta Branch News

Can't believe the summer is almost over and the kids are back in school!  We had a great time with lots of special events and ended the summer with a bang-a "Back-to-School" Party. We had about 35 people who showed up for the festivities (or maybe it was the root beer floats!)

On Monday, September 21st from 6:00 - 7:00 PM we'll be having an open house for our new computer lab.  Atlanta is very excited about being able to offer nine Internet-accessible computers, as well as a preschool computer equipped with stories, games and read-along activities. We also have Wi-Fi access for our lap top users.

We are in the process of expanding our music CD selection and welcome your input. Who are your favorite artists and what are your favorite songs? What type of CDs would you want to check out? We want to hear from you!

We are also asking you to share your thoughts and ideas with us as we put together our fall calendar. What types of events and programs would you like to see come to Atlanta?  Do you want some of your favorite ones back or are you ready for something new and different, or maybe a combination of both?  Stop by, call or email Mary (mpalmiero@hnpl.lib.in.us) or Cindy (cburgin@hnpl.lib.in.us) and let us know how we can better serve you.

See you at the Friends of the Library Book Sale in Atlanta during the Earth Festival!
